Future of Libraries

I can't wait to weed more of the mouldering "just in case collection." I think for the modern library to maintain it's physical presence it needs to diversify and incorporate things like community gardens, education, skilled trade classes and foodservice. Why am I going to a public building where I can't eat or watch Movies when I can go to McDonald's with my Kindle or my mobile device ? I don'y need to destroy my eyes pouring over reams of microfiche when there are sites like ancestry.com I can access between courses at Olive Garden.

Librarian 2.0 Needs stock options and performance bonususes to operate at that level.
Why does a city government even need to expend the resources in hiring Librarians when " Our next major effort in this area will be the release, this spring, of a search box that will allow anyone with a Web browser to search all of WorldCat, no authentication required." http://www.oclc.org/nextspace/002/4.htm

Build Better Data - You mean all those "ON THe FLY" and "TEMPORARY TITLE" don't contribute to clarity in the system ?

I like this idea
Libraries should get much greater mileage out of the metadata they create. For example, if geographic names embedded in the middle of subject headings are mapped to latitude and longitude coordinates, it becomes possible to present users with graphical means of searching by place, new ways of easily asking for materials about nearby places, and hierarchical browsing by place.
